Is the transfer window the same in every league?
No. National associations set their registration periods within FIFA’s framework, and a league may publish a more specific operational deadline. Major leagues often overlap, but their opening dates, final dates, and closing times can differ.
Can clubs agree a transfer while the window is closed?
Yes. Clubs and players can negotiate or announce an agreement outside a registration period. The receiving club generally has to wait for an applicable window before registering the player and making the move effective for competition.
Can a player move after deadline day?
Sometimes, but not simply because the announcement was delayed. The necessary submission may have been completed before the deadline, the player may qualify under rules for out-of-contract players, or the receiving country may still have an open window. The governing body’s rules determine the result.
Can free agents sign outside a transfer window?
In some competitions, a player who was genuinely out of contract before the window closed may be registered later. Squad-list rules and domestic restrictions can still apply, so “free agent” does not automatically mean unrestricted eligibility.
Can a club sell a player when its own window is closed?
Potentially. The important open period is usually the one in the country receiving the player. A club may sell to an open market even though it can no longer register a replacement at home.
Are loan deadlines different?
They can be. Many top-flight loans follow the main registration period, but individual associations and lower divisions may apply different dates or conditions. This site tracks the principal men’s professional window for each listed top league.
Why does the FIFA date differ from a league announcement?
FIFA publishes association-level data entered by member associations. A domestic competition can establish an earlier or more precise deadline within that period. We treat a direct league or national-association announcement as the better source for the specific league and report FIFA differences during our update check.
What timezone does the countdown use?
Every stored deadline includes an explicit UTC offset appropriate to the league’s local timezone on that date. Detail pages also show the same instant in the visitor’s local timezone.
Why does the countdown update once per minute?
Minute precision keeps the page calm and efficient while remaining useful. The app aligns itself with the next clock minute and schedules an additional update at the exact opening or closing boundary.
How can I report an incorrect date?
Use the corrections form and include the league, the date you believe is incorrect, and preferably a link to an official announcement. Corrections are reviewed rather than applied automatically.
